My Return to "Normal" Life
A profound and uplifting experience on the Pacific Ocean is tested by some nasty Covid upon return. Murphy's Law reigns supreme.
Hello friends, subscribers, fellow authors and creators.
For those of you who have been following/subscribing to my latest sailing adventure across the Pacific Ocean, I just want you to know that the voyage was very successful. I had a flawless, and quite incredible, sail on the 47' yacht Polar Sun. We had a great crew of five, led by the owners of Polar Sun, Mark and Hampton Synnott, and their fearless nine-year-old son Tommy. My other crew mate was our great sailing friend Mark Johncox from Vancouver, BC, a very talented blue water sailor.

Since the finish of the voyage in the Marquesas Islands, however, there has been a series of cascading events which occurred after we arrived in the dark and dropped anchor near the island of Hiva Oa on May 5th. I will try to take a stab at that story in an upcoming epilogue to the 3000-mile Pacific crossing. You may not believe it, but if you look up Murphy's Law in the dictionary you will definitely understand it.
First, however, I want to finish Part Four of my Pacific Ocean sailing adventures on the sailboat Polar Sun. This story will cover the Doldrums (Intertropical Convergence Zone), the Equator and picking up the SE trade winds in the Southern Hemisphere. I also want to describe the strategy of sailing across the vast Pacific Ocean, how it works, the nuts and bolts. And finally, how is the South Pacific being affected by large-scale issues like climate change and plastic pollution? I'll tackle that also.
Thank you, subscribers, for your patience with my writing while I have been off sailing, and recovering, from the Covid I was unlucky enough to get from someone, somewhere, on my four days of travels (yes, four days!) attempting to get back home to Lake Okoboji, Iowa.
What a wonderful, difficult and strange time of life it has been. I look forward to writing my stories and returning to “normal” with you soon, that is, IF Mr. Murphy allows it to happen. Stay tuned!
Cheers!! David
