I leave Saturday for Manzanillo, Mexico, on Saturday. There I will join the sailing vessel (s/v) Polar Sun, a 47-foot Stevens sailboat for a 3000-mile voyage across the South Pacific Ocean. This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid and read Thor Heyerdahl’s “Kontiki.” This was one of the stories that made me want to become a sailing explorer. Now I’m 65, sailed 75,000-nautical miles around the world, and winding down into a last few voyages and ocean crossings in my life.

I’ve sailed across the Equator three times and it is always hot, sticky and mind-boggling beautiful. Tropics are so interesting.

Should be a great voyage and a wonderful experience with special friends at sea. Cheers all, David
